Portrait of Victoria Hauk with her flute in an orange sweater

Hi! I’m Tori.

I believe music is the perfect blend of athleticism and art. We hone the smallest muscles in the hands, fingers, and face (embouchure). And we dissect the printed music and listen to recordings all to create a beautiful performance that evokes emotion and moves the audience. I bring both to my performance as a professional flutist and my work as a flute teacher.

MY JOURNEY

THE EARLY YEARS
Victoria Hauk as a young girl playing the flute

I began playing the flute at age 7. My first flute teacher became my role model and inspired me to be not just a flutist, but also a well-rounded, kind human. I fell in love with the flute. Even though I tried other instruments like the piano, oboe, organ, and the bagpipes(!), the flute remained a constant in my life.

HIGH SCHOOL & COLLEGE

By the time I reached high school I knew I wanted to continue studying through college and become a professional performer. I spent four years at the University of Arizona learning how to take my playing to the next level. After graduation, I moved to Florida to study for my masters degree at Lynn Conservatory.

The Bay Area

I came to study at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where I found my home, both culturally and musically. The Bay Area is where I decided to make my home because of the many opportunities to perform (symphonies, chamber music, and solo performance), the beautiful nature available all around, and the cultural acceptance and openness to different people, beliefs, and ways of being.

It’s here that I started my teaching journey. During my first year, I saw my students’ faces light up when they mastered a piece or learned a new way of making an embouchure. I knew that this is something I wanted to keep doing. I am learning everyday and helping students of all ages make music.

In my spare time, I love making macrame, gardening, reading, playing with my three cats (Beemo, Nugget, and Taco) and hiking all over California with my partner, Jacqui.
